Between current energy/storm and base rate increase, it seems these are regular occurrence and is unsustainable for a majority of residents. Between the increase approval of 4.98% for energy/storm increase and this proposed increase of 7.35%, we're all looking at a 12.33% overall increase, really! This blows the average cost of living increase out of the water! What is GMP doing to reduce costs rather than just passing along increased fees to customers who have no alternative power supplier?

I think the proposed 7.35% rate hike for Green Mountain Power customers is unsustainable and ridiculous. If they want to push Vermonter's budgets into the dumps, the state should take over the power company and run it at cost. Why are we letting these greedy CEOs dictate how much everyday people have left in their wallets?

Don't blame GMP. The fault is our corrupt gov't, in this case the PUC. Is Peter Welch's wife still on the board? PUC can receive 200,000 public complaints, but they have already given the approval for this raise in our rates. Vermonters pay the second highest in electric rates, but this gov't wants to be #1 in everything, U better believe someone in the PUC is in GMP's pocket. Isn't our gov't supposed to be working for the people, not against them? Think before you vote next time.

It is not sustainable for anyone on a fixed income to live in Vermont. Property taxes went up 14% now electric going up 7.35%. How can any public official allow this to happen and claim they are for Vermonters? I didn't get a 22% raise in 2025 to cover these costs. Reduce the CEO's wages. I had to remove climbing ivy off GMP's pole to keep my fuse from blowing because they didn't. Outrageous
This is becoming insane. How much has your profits increased over the years? Have you tried cutting that? Why should we curtail the amount as your profits increase year over year over year. This absolutely needs to be overturned and YOU need to be fiscally responsible instead of forcing US to pay more. Bottom line, we can’t. Vote no, it’s the only conscious choice

Another rate increase for GMP seems absurd. We have house in Ohio we alive in for a part of the winter and our electric rates are a quarter of GMP's. My son lives in CA and even his are much less.. The consistent requests for increases only exhibit poor management, and are unrelenting for the average electric user.

Inflation over the last few years has been 3-5%. It's unconscionable for this increase to be more than double inflation. GMP should constrain its spending before expecting ratepayers to shoulder the additional costs above and beyond inflation. 7.5% seems far beyond "cost of doing businesses"

My electric bill is getting to be unpayable with the consistently increasing rates with GMP. Its increased over 150% and to the point I barely turn my lights on in my house. This is unacceptable and predatory.

This increase is too high for the average customer to pay with the current state of all other expenses rapidly increasing. Customers were just incentivized to install heat pumps to help save money and now the cost of running these is increasing dramatically! As a customer who took on the added expense of purchasing and having a heat pump installed I feel very misled. Please review profits and top level salaries at GMP before approving a much smaller and more reasonable increase.

The proposed rate increase in excess of 7% is offensive and out of line. You, reading this comment, have you received a salary increase of 7+% recently? I sure haven’t.
But then I’m not profiteering on my employer the way GMP is on us customers.
Shame.

GMO has raised rates, cut net metering benefits, and pass along fees intended for them to the consumer. For such a large utility provider I find this behavior unsurprising. GMP rate increases would put measurable strain on Vermonters already spread thin.

I am adding my voice to request that the proposed rate increase for FY26 be denied. Along with the additional cost for regular home electric, those of us with electric cars (who already pay additional registration fees to make up for the loss in gas tax) will be paying more to charge our vehicles. Vermont is already an expensive place to live and a large rate hike will make it even more expensive for young families like mine.

I am NOT in favor of this, there is already a daily charge just to have power each month. Then you add in the actual KWH you use, along with all of the charges and fees associated with GMP. Why am I paying for someone else who needs assistance with their electricity? I go to work every day and work hard in our communities and others sit back and collect on it, don’t have to pay their bills and now other Vermonters are responsible for paying portions of their bills!

not in favor of any increase of rates; GMP is riding on the backs of middle class and retirees. GMP along with VT Gas are monopolies and there is no competition therefore no incentive to keep customer rate reasonable. The PUC is now and always has rubber stamped requested increases for GMP, and other utilities especially VT GAS; we, the average customer, have no recourse. We are spending our retirement resources and our childrens and grandchildrens futures......sad to stay in vermont.

I am retired on a fixed income. This rate increase is unacceptable. GMP reliability in our area has been terrible. We have experienced numerous outages for extended periods of time with no compensation for losses. Our electricity rates are among the HIGHEST in the nation. In July 2020 the average price per kilowatt hour in New England was under 20 cents per kilowatt . In 2024, the average retail electricity price in the United States was 16.48 cents per kilowatt-hour. Reject this request!!

Vermont PUC please consider residential electricity choice. GMP does not care what they get for a rate, they just pass along the costs to customer. In surrounding states - Maine and MA for example, residential customers can shop around for supply rates-lock into 2 and 3 year fixed contracts, this protects the customer from swings when the regional energy market shifts upwards. Thank you.

Each year, GMP continues to request rate increases that disproportionately impact those least able to afford them. The current proposed increase of 7.35% is more than double the national inflation rate and nearly three times the current COLA of 2.5%.
It should be capped at the COLA rate.
GMP should review and adjust its executive compensation packages to reflect the economic realities facing its customers.
This is clearly corporate greed.

The largest stated reason for this increase from GMP themselves in "Schedule A – Narrative Overview" states that Regional Network Services rates rose 20% because of LOWER THAN EXPECTED REGIONAL LOADS, TRIGGERING A REVENUE SHORTFALL RECOVERY.
So because the consumer tried to save power, GMP made less money, and now they want to make that lost money back.
This eliminates the reason for CONSERVING ELECTRICITY! No reason to save electricity if you will just be charged more for less b/c of it.

At a time of economic uncertainty for some many, government cuts, high taxes, and uncertainty in the future of the liheap program, a 7.35% increase is just too high for so many. I agree with previous commenters that increases should never exceed colas.

I am a 66 year old male who is retired and living off a fixed income. Seems like every year GMP is requesting increases to the cost of electricity that have to be paid by by those who can least afford it. This recent request of 7.35% is more than double the rate of inflation and three times the current Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA). If GMP does need another increase it should be limited to the current COLA adjustment of 2.5% to be equitable to fixed income customers.

I don’t believe that you take any of the public comments seriously but I will voice my objection to the request for approval to base rates from Oct 1,2025 to September 30, 2026. The CEO compensation package should be reviewed and adjusted before you start taking $9 a month from Vermonters. Shame on you for even proposing this increase in the current economy. And pray, tell - will be rates be adjusted back to the base level if regional energy markets and transmission costs go down?

This proposed increase is a slap in the face to all of us. Why don't you try cutting bonuses for executives instead of coming after us time after time. $9 here, $9 there, this all adds up and there's nothing we can do about it. These electric company monopolies need to be broken up.
